Liability Insurance
In Suriname, the name Corporate Legal Liability Insurance (CLL) is used.
The purpose of this insurance is to protect the assets of the insured parties. CLL recognizes the following as insured person(s):
- policyholder;
- subordinates of the policyholder.
We consciously do not speak of employees but of subordinates. When it comes to employees, one should usually think of employees who are permanently employed. Subordinates is a broader concept. This also includes persons whom the policyholder has recruited through an employment agency, or who are “employed” (consultants) within the company, because of a separate investigation. Most CLLs consider the directors and supervisory directors of a company as insured persons. They too, acting in their capacity as employees of the insured company, can cause damage and be liable.
